Bacteriostatic Water (BW) is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative. Used for reconstituting lyophilized research peptides. The benzyl alcohol inhibits microbial growth, allowing multi-dose use of reconstituted solutions. Supplied in sealed vials for laboratory use.
About Bacteriostatic Water
Bacteriostatic Water for Injection is a sterile, nonpyrogenic preparation of water for injection containing 0.9% (9 mg/mL) benzyl alcohol added as a bacteriostatic preservative. It is intended for use as a solvent for the reconstitution of lyophilized peptides in research laboratory settings.
The benzyl alcohol preservative prevents microbial contamination and allows multi-dose reconstitution of research compounds, extending working solution stability compared to plain sterile water.
Laboratory use notes
- Use only in controlled laboratory environments with appropriate PPE
- Allow peptide vial to equilibrate to room temperature before adding BW
- Reconstitute gently — do not vortex or shake vigorously
- Aliquot reconstituted solutions into single-use volumes where possible

Storage
